La Garangeoire, St Julien des Landes, France

With its stunning wide sandy beaches, and the most daily sunshine of any area in France, The Vendee has always been a popular destination for UK campers, with some of the best French campsites.

Over the years, one site that ranks consistently highly with visitors is La Garangeoire, in St Julien-des-Landes, close to the coast at Les Sables d’Olonne. Comments like “This place is very hard to beat”, “We’ve been 5 consecutive years, and have already booked again.” and “A magnificent campsite, where I have spent 18 consecutive years of holidays” all point to a special campsite.

Now part of the Castel campsite group, La Garangeoire is set in parkland surrounding a small chateau, around 10 miles inland from the Vendee Coast. It’s a lovely setting, with plenty of mature trees and very impressive as you enter the site through the main gates.

Pitches are generally large, separated by small hedges, and being situated amidst the trees, the majority are also well-shaded. Almost all have electricity and some also have direct hookup to water and drainage. The wash blocks are of a high standard and are well-maintained.

The site is particularly good for family holidays, with a fantastic pool complex with waterslides, together with a separate childrens’ pool. Other on-site facilities include a shop, restaurant and lovely bar area with outside terrace.

As with many campsites in France, it can get quite busy during the summer French holiday season, but La Garangeoire always manages to retain a nice relaxed, chilled feeling – which is why we believe it’s one of the best French campsites!
